I have more than 16 years of experience in the telecommunications industry and have held various managerial positions including Director at Huawei Thailand and CEO of Huawei Laos. Currently, I am responsible for the overall business and strategic management of the company in Laos, and I’m eager to bring my passion for technology and innovation to this leadership position.

2. Huawei Technologies, established in 1987, is now a world class multinational technology company leading in many areas of telecommunications and consumer electronics. I believe most Lao people do not recognize that Huawei has been established in Lao since 1998. Could you please give us a brief history of Huawei’s business in Laos?

Huawei Business in Laos has four main business groups: Carrier Networks, Enterprise, Consumer and Cloud. Huawei started to supply telecommunication equipment and services to operators in Laos, including Lao Telecom, Unitel, and ETL in 1998. In addition to telecommunication equipment, we have also provided digitalization solutions to various government departments and enterprises, including Skytel, several ministries, and vertical industries including finance and energy. Our first overseas contract for 2G was signed in Laos in 1999, and Huawei M900 BTS20 (2G) was the first generation GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) base station available outside China. We have since played a significant role in supporting operators to build the first 3G (2008) and 4G (2012) networks to serve the people in the country.

During Covid-19, Huawei has also been active in helping fight the pandemic. Our Video Conference System and technical support was used to facilitate important events including “The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC)” meetings, and professional medical meetings between the Ministry of Health and other institutions.

Recently in 2020, Huawei supported Laos in building the first 5G system.
Other than the telecommunication network, Huawei also has provided our intelligent management solution for the first highway of Lao.

As a recognized leader in the ICT industry, Huawei has already cultivated more than 3,000 ICT professionals in Laos over the past twenty years. Huawei and the Lao Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications have collaboratively developed an ICT talent training seminar, and we hold training courses at several universities every quarter.

Huawei believes technology can and should be used to care for our world in meaningful ways. Under our “Seeds for the Future” program, since 2016 we proudly sent Lao students every year for two weeks of ICT training in China with the goal of developing local ICT talent, enhancing knowledge transfer, promoting a greater understanding of and interest in the telecommunications sector, and improving and encouraging participation in the digital community.

3. In 2021, how will Huawei Technologies (Lao) Sole Co., Ltd bring us new innovative telecommunications equipment and consumer electronics that many Lao people are anticipating?

4. Digital Economic Laos
The Digital Lao Vision will play an important role in driving the Lao economy by promoting innovation and increasing competitiveness. Under these new and technological environments, there will be many opportunities for new business and new business models. Huawei believes two major domains will be of most importance for Laos.

We have seen significant changes in the role of connectivity across all sectors of society, including government and enterprise applications. Where 2G to 4G addressed the challenges of connecting people, 5G will introduce even greater reliability, flexibility and opportunities for connectivity to homes and business while improving consumer mobile services.

Cloud is an inevitable trend in ICT development as businesses look to adopt more cost-effective, scalable and reliable platforms. Based on more than 30 years of experience in ICT and communications technologies, Huawei has built a comprehensive and secure cloud platform that can provide excellent cloud services for all industries and government in Laos and help the country achieve digital transformation faster. Since 2020, Huawei has held many local and remote cloud workshops and training events with our partners, including banks, Internet companies, government and more.
