In this issue, we shall be looking further into Chinese commercial philosophy following on from our February 2019 issue.

When Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang declared himself Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, which was the first empire of China, Li Xin became his right hand, performing duties similar to those of a prime minister, and later went on to have monumental power and influence. It could be said that is success in his investment of founding the dynasty was as he had worked towards.

The origin of the Chinese empire through trade investment has been passed down from generation to generation. Chinese people are not good at trade
from birth, but through times and learning efforts. This does not apply to only trading knowledge, but also creativity making Chinese people one of the world’s greatest inventors, such as compass, publishing techniques, gun powder and paper which was produced before anyone in the world, including sea navigation. There is a saying that the first to discover America is not Christopher Columbus, but Zheng He, great Navy Commander in the era of Ming Dynasty, who went to America in 1421 or about 71 years before Christopher Columbus. Zheng He’s navy fleet was several-100-times bigger than that of Christopher Columbus. Due to conflicts between royal officials and the new emperor resulted in the decision to close
their country which left the world’s most superior navy fleet ruined, China became a sleeping dragon before waking up after the independence in 1949 under the leadership of the great Mao Zedong and then under Deng Xiaoping, another important leader who opened China to the world and accelerated Chinese economic growth making China great again. Currently, Xi Jinping is turning China into an awaken
dragon flying up high in the sky with his “One Belt One Road” strategy linking trading routes together just like silk roads in the past.

Many top wealthy people in Asia, namely Mr. Lee Ka-Shing from Hong Kong, Mr. Lim Goh Tong from Malaysia and Mr. Dhanin Chearavanont from Thailand who are Chinese living in poverty before migrating from their homeland to settle overseas, including Chinese people who live in Laos, all share common secrets on how to build their wealth as following:

1. Work hard and be patient:

Chinese wealthy people started from poverty, especially those who migrated overseas because they wanted to start from scratch. Because of that, they were willing to whatever it takes just to earn money. We have seen Chinese people carry things for sale from north to south for many years. This perseverance serves as a fundamental motivation and encouragement for Chinese people living overseas to work hard and eventually be rich.

Apart from the perseverance, Chinese people are very consistent just like a saying “10 years is not too late.” Therefore, no matter what Chinese people do, they willremain calm and patient waiting for the seed they plant to grow as a strong tree before harvesting it fruits later. Speaking of diligence and perseverance, Chinese people are among the top in the world reflected in many stories of Chinese rich people built their wealth from zero.

They sleep less than 8 hours a day with the rest of their time to work. Mr. Lee Ka-Shing is another good example of a successful Chinese person.
He was born in Guangdong Province, PRC, before migrating to Hong Kong in 1940. After his father passed away for 2 years, he decided to leave school at the age of only 12 years old to work for his family.

Mr. Lee Ka-Shing started working as a salesperson at a company producing plastic toys. He had to work 16-20 hours a day in approximate. Before beginning his work at 9am, he had to find new customers from other areas and return to the factory at night to check purchasing orders. Due to his hard work, he received more bonus than others every year. Some year, he was rewarded with a bonus 7-time higher than the second highest bonus receiver at the factory. (to be continued).
