ອຸດສາຫະກຳຕັດຫຍິບ ແມ່ນໜຶ່ງໃນຂະແໜງອຸດສາຫະກໍາທີ່ສຳຄັນ ຕີລາຄາໄດ້ຈາກປະກອບສ່ວນຕໍ່ການສ້າງວຽກເຮັດງານທຳ ແລະ ສ້າງລາຍຮັບຈາກການສົ່ງອອກ. ເລີ່ມແຕ່ຊຸມປີ 90 ທີ່ມີຫົວໜ່ວຍການຜະລິດພຽງແຕ່ 5 ໂຮງງານ ໂດຍຈຳນວນໂຮງງານຕັດຫຍິບເພີ່ມຂຶ້ນເຖິງ 130 ແຫ່ງຮອດປີ 2013 (ໃນນີ້ ແບ່ງເປັນໂຮງງານຕັດຫຍິບທີ່ສົ່ງອອກໂດຍກົງ 107 ແຫ່ງ ສ່ວນທີ່ເຫຼືອແມ່ນໂຮງງານຮັບເໝົາຜະລິດໃຫ້ໂຮງງານທີ່ສົ່ງອອກ ຫຼື sub-contractors). ຂະແໜງນີ້ສ້າງວຽກເຮັດງານທຳໃຫ້ 32.000 ຄົນ ແລະ ມີມູນຄ່າການສົ່ງອອກ 201,8 ລ້ານໂດລາສະຫະລັດ ໃນປີ 2013.
ອີງຕາມຂໍ້ມູນຂອງສະມາຄົມອຸດສາຫະກຳຕັດຫຍິບລາວ, ການລົງທຶນສ່ວນໃຫຍ່ໃນອຸດສາຫະກຳນີ້ ແມ່ນມາຈາກນັກລົງທຶນຍີ່ປຸ່ນ, ຮອງລົງມາແມ່ນໄທ ແລະ ມີທ່ວງທ່າວ່າຈະມີການລົງທຶນຈາກຈີນຫຼາຍຂຶ້ນ. ປັດຈຸບັນ ອຸດສາຫະກຳຕັດຫຍິບ ມີການຈ້າງງານທາງກົງປະມານ 26.000 ຄົນ (90% ເປັນແມ່ຍິງ). ໂຮງງານຫຼາຍແຫ່ງໄດ້ການຮັບຮອງມາດຕະຖານສາກົນ ໂດຍສະເພາະ ມາດຕະຖານ ISO 9001 ແລະ ບາງແຫ່ງກໍໄດ້ມາດຕະຖານຄວາມຮັບຜິດຊອບດ້ານສັງຄົມ (SA8000).

garment business situation in Laos
Garment industry is one of the most important sectors which could be seen through its contribution to job creation and income generation via exports. The number of garment factories started with 5 in the 1990s before reaching 130 in 2013 (in this number, 107 directly produce for export on their own, whereas the rest are sub-contractors). This sector has created jobs for 32,000 people and had an export value of 201.8 million US dollar in 2013.
According to information from the Association of Lao Garment Industry, most investment in this sector has been made by the Japanese followed by Thai and the increasing number of Chinese investors. Nowadays, garment industry employs approximately 26,000 people (90% are women). Many factories are internationally standardized, especially with the ISO9001, with some also are certified with SA8000 for their social responsibility.
