- ລະດັບຜົນກະທົບຕໍ່ກັບເສດຖະກິດທາງດ້ານວິສາຫະກິດໃນລາວໂດຍຫຍໍ້

- Level of economic impacts upon enterprises in brief
Based on the National Enterprise Database, Ministry of Industry and Commerce (as of March 2020), number of enterprises in Laos is incorporated into this initial business analysis by a study group in order to compose index of enterprises affected by COVID-19. Impacts of COVID-19 upon enterprises are divided into 2 tiers. As it can be seen from the figure 1, enterprises categorized under tier 1 are those affected by the first wave of COVID-19, which include business associated to tourism and services, such as tourist companies, hotels, restaurants, entertainment places, public transportation firms, educational and other service businesses. These are enterprises affected directly by the current economic situation and government’s initial measures. Out of all provinces, Vientiane Capital and Luang Prabang are the most two affected citites with the number of enterprises under level 3 (more than 5,000 enterprises). Apart from the high number of enterprises, we should also consider the fact that the two provinces are tourist hubs accommodating several international flights. These are also the first two provinces to find COVID infected patients. In addition, 11 provinces affected under level 2 (1,000-5,000 enterprises) are all located along the Mekong River bordering with neighboring countries where tourists as well as transport trucks enter and depart every day. Then we have the remaining 5 provinces affected under level 3 (below 1,000 enterprises). According to an initial assessment of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, March 2020 had more than 70% of hotel cancellation rate (based on surveys done with some hotels in Vientiane Capital, Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Champasack). According to a report of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Lao Airlines has lost more than 2 million US dollar after ceasing its operation since February 2020.
