Speaking of industrial revolution and technological development, many of you might know well that it happened a long time ago. It might be difficult to say who takes the lead in this 4.0 era. It can be Germany, Korea or anyone because the “digital” technology allows borderless connection. What we can be sure about is that this change can only provide a good opportunity for those who are well-prepared to maximize benefits from it.
Take the case of Mr. Jack Ma, Chinese billionaire and the founder of Alibaba, world’s biggest E-Commerce website, as an example. He is one of the most successful person in the world who took advantage of the emergence of “digital” technology. He shared his interesting view regarding opportunities triggered by changes and self-development at the “World E-Commerce Forum” in Davos, Switzerland. He told a story of when he was young. He was born in China in the era when technology was not so advanced and in a poor family that could not support his education. Nevertheless, Jack Ma had a unique way of looking at the world which was different from others. He predicted what would happen in the next 10 years from then. He did everything to get himself ready by continuously improving himself in order to achieve goals and deal with what would occur. Chances for a poor person like me to be successful is to think at least 10 years ahead.” This saying by Jack Ma shows that the thought of future is very important for one to be successful.
Jack Ma raised one interesting point about the evolution of technology which would impact people’s life and working style. The replacement of human labor with highly effective robot and computer proves that “we can never beat machines because they are accurate, quick and never stop working. However, what makes us more different is the value, belief, freedom, teamwork and sympathy that we have which can never be taught or programed on machines. Therefore, works that require emotion have to be operated by human, not machines. For this reason, it is highly essential to train children to play sports, music, art or other leisure activities which will help improving their soft skills making them unique from machines.”
