Since the world does not stop moving forward, we should never stop improving ourselves either. Previously, robots used to be just toys for children. They came in parts for children to assemble and play. However, robots were later developed with a music, sound or voice recording function. To date, robots have been so advanced that they can be more efficient and can replace human in some jobs. According to researches (conducted by foreign institutes), some occupations will be substituted by robots causing more unemployment as the technology can respond to social needs in the modern era much better than human. That is the trend in foreign countries and does not seem to reach our country yet. However, we should expect that the innovation will soon come in the future. Therefore, I would like to introduce you to 4 amazing robotic innovations which will correspond well to life and working style of the new generation.
- Robotic Cat
At the moment, those who are allergic to cat’s fur or live in a place where you cannot pet cats can have Qooboo, a Japanese robot cat coming in a form of a pillow. It is a headless, armless and legless robot just when you gently pat it, Qooboo will swing its tail just like a real cat. With this simple communication of tail swinging without voice or facial expression, this innovation will help relaxing its owners which is considered another method for psychological therapy.
- Robotic Arm DJ
Only a small arm is enough to play music at Karlovy Lazne in Prague, Czech Republic. The night club introduces its robotic arm DJ commanded by a specifically designed software which enables this arm to play music from CDs while scratching and waving to rhyme with the music it plays. This is another exciting innovation that will help entertaining people.
- Night-Shift Robotic Nurse
Nagoya University Hospital in Japan is ready to deploy robots to help dispatching medication and test samples in order to reduce workloads for hospital staff. The 4 robots will be working from 5PM to 8AM which is the period when there are fewer night-shift staff. The robots will assume its main duty of dispatching medication and test samples among ICU, Medication and Lab Section. The robots will be programed with information and floor plan of the hospital, equipped with a 360-degree camera and radar so that it can automatically avoid hitting any obstacle while asking for a way. In addition, they can use an elevator by themselves including to return to their charging station on their own when they need to be recharged.
- Shelf-Scanning Robots
Walmart, the biggest retail corporation in the world, is turning to shelf-scanning robots. Their main duty is to check products on each shelf to find out whether price tags on the shelf correspond with the goods or not. This information will be transferred to staff for them to take proper action.
Despite the increasing use of robots, they only serve as a temporary assistant and have been piloting just recently. Definitely, the innovations are still far away from be able to really replace human at work as the main labor forces. These innovations are created by human and of course, human are more superior and if robots will really be used, they will have to be controlled by human anyway.
