A new option for developing Lao education to meet international standards
From her experience in business in multiple sectors – from excavation and mining through to road, Ms. Soulinda Manotham or ‘Pou’, her position Manager of Alo Technology Laos, which has wonoutstanding ASEAN Business Awards (ABAs) in 2018, has granted us an interview, explaining that: “Technology is now an important factor in improving efficiencyand effectiveness at work and includesbusiness administration in the Industry 4.0 era, where you have to compete with both domestic and overseas companies and cope with the transitional world of the present in order to respond to
customer demand and ensure their optimal satisfaction.
As for me, I have not studied in any specialized field, technology, or IT directly but my curiosity, effort, determination, and love for what I do has led to the decision to make me a business partner of Planet and cooperate with Alo Technology Laos, which is a fast growing startup, in the use of technology in the development of education in the form of smartphones, tablets, all-in-one computers, and such like, which are on display for sale at mobile phone stores in all provinces nationwide. The thing that sets us apart from the rest is that our general products and tablets come with education apps, which assist with education, and students can learn via these apps because you can download each lesson for each school without using school textbooks as we have joined forces with Microsoft to provide special software download prices, which can be used in Lao language without having to download the Lao versions because our products are made by Lao manufacturers and I would like everyone to try out their quality and offer further suggestions for improvement.
I chose Alo Technology Laos because I like to work, help, and develop society anyway so when I reach a certain point, I turn it into a business and also like to do business which is interlinked with development. In business, money is one thing but the profit I make from the business I want to give back to communities and society. From the vision of Company President Mr. Thanousone Phonamath, which is similar, we want to help with development while doing business at the same time, which is what led to my decision to enter into business cooperation with him.
To an extent, I have got to where I am thanks to my education but we should lend a thought to children living in rural areasbefore receiving an education equal to that of those in urban areas, they have to go to such great efforts to succeed. I believe that every one is entitled to an equal right to knowledge and information should be received, which takes place better through Alo, which does nothing but provide knowledge and disseminate it among all Lao children to make it accessible even if they do not live in an urban area or have the opportunity to study overseas – they will still be able to learn all the same things – because national development is not the sole duty of the Party and State; everyone must help each other to the extent possible so please spread the word about Alo and our brand of technology, something which will boost the education of our nation to develop it up to
international standards.
Furthermore, our company produces apps which assist with education, such as learning English and IT, and enables them to take international standard examinations. We have the curricula for them to study by themselves installed in our devices. Currently, there is a great shortage of IT and English teachers in Laos so if we have this equipment, it will allow students to listen to true native speakers and learn the pronunciation and accents thereof. Ourapps are all in 3D to give a realistic picture. The important thing is that our products start by emphasizing Lao language only because if you give a person a computer which is all in English, they will not have the opportunity to learn because they will not be able to understand it and the fact that teachers in rural areas can use it for learning and teaching will make it easier for them too.
At the end of the year, I would like to let all those about to or already engaging in business to recognize the importance of choosing a good business partner who has a vision and speaks the same language because then you and the president or founder can build a business to make profits but at the same time, benefit society, especially in terms of educational development in the era of Industry 4.0, through which we are currently navigating.
The important thing is that we have to open opportunities for ourselves to learn and gain experience in order to develop our business and make our dreams come true.
